Russian antitrust threatens new fine on Google if sees no mending

Google logoMOSCOW, Aug 26 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service can impose a fine of up to 500,000 rubles on Google in the next 10 days if the company fails to notify the authority about fulfilment of its orders to mend breaches on the mobile application market, a service spokesperson said late Thursday.

The deadline of following the orders expired on Thursday. “Otherwise, the Administrative Code stipulates a fine from 300,000 to 500,000 rubles,” the spokesperson said.

The antimonopoly service found Google guilty of abusing its dominance on the market of preinstalled application stores as it obliged device manufacturers to pre-install its services in a bundle with Google Play. The watchdog fined the U.S. giant with 438 million rubles.

The authority wants the company to untie its application store from other services, including the search engine, and stop restricting producers from contracting other Internet companies.
